There are a few places in the world today where Christianity is embattled or even on the verge of extinction. One of them is Kosovo and Metohija, the UN-administered province of Serbia with deep spiritual roots and a mixed population. Regrettably, since 1999, some 150 Christian churches and monasteries in the province have been destroyed or desecrated. Today, the remaining active places of worship are isolated from any sizable Christian population and are languishing in an environment of blind hatred and hostile ignorance, reliant on the UN protection force for their elementary safety.

It is truly remarkable how the monks and nuns from monasteries of Kosovo and Metohija have, against the odds, bounced back and begun rebuilding their sacred places and ruined churches. It is a sad reality, however, that they cannot live, labor and minister freely: they cannot travel freely, have visitors, tend their fields and vineyards, visit their needy flock. Their shrines are surrounded by barbed wire. This is what Christianity under siege is.

Find first hand from the Abbot of Moanstery Decani what Christianity under siege means to him, monks in Decani Monastery, and Serbian population in occupied Serbian province of Kosovo and Metohija.
